This study detected the concentrations of cadmium and inflammatory factors in the serum of 940 patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and for the first time evaluated the correlation between serum cadmium, inflammatory factors, and lung function in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The results showed that the serum cadmium concentration in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease was positively correlated with inflammatory factors and negatively correlated with lung function. It is known that inflammatory factors may be important mediators of cadmium induced decline in lung function in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Article Topic: This study selected 212 patients with community-acquired pneumonia and 106 healthy individuals as research subjects. Serum resistin levels were measured at admission and patient prognosis was tracked to explore the relationship between serum resistin levels and the severity and prognosis of community-acquired pneumonia patients. The results showed that the serum resistin level of community-acquired pneumonia patients upon admission was positively correlated with the severity of the condition and length of hospital stay, suggesting that resistin may be involved in the physiological process of community-acquired pneumonia. Serum resistin may be a potential biomarker for the diagnosis and prognosis of community-acquired pneumonia.
